Mad About Gardens

large Gardens

project 71

This large Garden was an absolute pleasure to design & install, a classic timeless, but minimalist country Garden with structure (hedging is used to define & break up the large spaces).

This client had a few very reasonable requirements: Large climbing trees for her son, large lawned areas, a soccer playing area & a jungle gym. They wanted to feel free but have privacy. They also needed lots of space to entertain their lovely large family.

This property was built on a slope with the patio facing South. We used terraces mirrored on either side of the house. We hand-picked 50 large mature trees that were mostly multi-stem trees to fulfill the climbing tree requirement. These were planted along the East & Western boundary, planted randomly to create a natural feel & underplanted with grasses & wild flowers to help create a habitat for other critters. Between the wild area & the house we laid a perfect lawn framed with a small hedge. Between the Pool pavilion & the patio area we wanted to draw your eye to the left & right and so installed a topiary Garden either side of the pool.

There is a contemplative water feature area that will attract beneficial pollinators & a bench on either side to take a break or have a cold glass of bubbles, among pleached trees, Olive trees, topiary balls in various sizes, Lavander & Rosemary.

The patio terrace has 2 Large Lemon Trees flanking the walkway down to the pool & pool pavilion with Hydrangeas along the wall & Jasmin & Clematis climbing up the columns to green up the space.

The chessboard pattern paving is used in the courtyard Garden, & between the main patio & pavilion.

This Garden will get better with age.

Indigenous Garden

It was a pleasure having Corlea from Mad About Gardens create our beautiful indigenous garden.

She is enthusiastic, creative and very knowledgeable.

Throughout the year, there is always some plant or shrub in full bloom and every corner of the garden has its own sense of enchantment.

She was always receptive to any additions we wanted or any changes we required and even now with her having emigrated to the UK she makes herself totally available to us and is still our go to person.

Romantic Garden

“Corlea designed and installed the garden in my newly built house. She had creative and original ideas for layout and plant combinations, resulting in a unique and magnificent space. I am happy that I went with her bold ideas instead of a “safe / same-old” garden as it has brought so much joy to my family.
Corlea understood the heart of my ideas when I was unable to completely understand and express them myself. She incorporated other creative elements into my ideas, using this as the basis for great design themes.
I also appreciated her professionalism when she would tell me that something I wanted would not work, instead of just going along with it to make me happy. In such cases she would provide suitable alternatives that would maintain the integrity of the design.
I had a great experience throughout the process, and feel confident in recommending Corlea as someone that can create distinctive and interesting spaces for her clients.”

Aloe and Cycads

Corlea from Mad About Gardens designed my aloe and cycad garden. It is so beautiful and gives me joy each time I see it.

Corlea has a sound understanding of design principles and a deep empathy for plants. She feels where they will thrive.

I can whole heartedly recommend the work of this talented young woman.
